Regional Day - 9th June 2012

The venue, Riccall, where the Rainbow squares greeted us in the entrance hall. The morning meeting consisted of an address by Christine Poole followed by a talk "Essential Goldwork" by Helen McCook who was trained at the Royal School of Needlework. Helen's new book on Goldwork is about to be published so we were asked not to take photographs of the samples of her work on display, but they were stunning, in particular the hare. Helen also told us her part in making Kate Middleton's wedding dress and the secrecy involved before its reveal.

After lunch, the competition awards. Hilary's tulips in a tin were awarded 3rd prize in the "Tin" competition, congratulations.

The piece of gold work in the centre of the picture above won first prize in "Ten" competition.

I should have paid attention. I'm not sure which embroidery won in the Maggie Judges Floral competition.

Following this was a talk by Mike Millward who is a Trustee and volunteer at Gawthorpe Hall. His history of the house and family was informative and an insight into the history of the extensive collection of textiles at Gawthorpe. He brought samples of embroidery and also gave a ppp of photographs of the textiles, their storage and their exhibition galleries.

Colourcraft, Empress Mills and Viking Loom were present, just in case anyone needed to spend money.
