April Meeting 2012

Yesterday's meeting was a Member's Day. We were invited to bring textiles to show to the group, and many and varied they were too.
Sally showed us some of the patchwork and quilting she has collected and explained some of the differences in constructing hexagonal pieces on either side of the Atlantic

Judith brought a hussif she had made.

Catherine brought her first piece of embroidery, a shoe bag and also the bag made to complete her outfit for her daughter's wedding.

Audrey told the story of her first embroidery and how a neighbor inspected the back and pontificated that it should be as neat as the front. The same person gave this linen bag to Audrey's mother, made by a relative who studied at the Royal School of Needlework. Back and front illustrated!

The Goldwork animal has been given to the Branch. A former member, Mrs Middleton executed the piece which was designed by her husband.

Jan brought in this stunning piece of whitework. None of us was prepared to say the country of origin.

Many more pieces were brought in for this show and tell session. Unfortunately I didn't take any other photographs. Contributions welcome.
